I have to admit, Chris, I enjoyed a bit of this VID too...it is nice to see Jerry just before I began seeing him regularly, and Phil sure does look young...Bobby too.

I agree, DD: Pig is in a bad way...so thin, it seems to me.

Yeah, when the liver starts to shut down you don't look too good. Excuse me while I bring my work to the Forum:

"The majority of cirrhotic patients unintentionally follow a low caloric diet, a fact that is attributed to various side-effects observed in cirrhosis. Loss of appetite, which is currently attributed to the presence of cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor α (TNF- α),[10] or alcohol-induced anorexia, are the most common reasons."

Alcohol-induced anorexia is a pretty good way of describing what was happening to the man.

SDH and TELL
Pictures of Pigpen from his younger days make him out to be pretty stout.
The thing I also noticed was his cheeks were very sunken into his face during Europe 72.
Take all that and check out this video:

Does consuming copious amounts of beer indicate a low caloric diet?

Yes, especially if you also consider nachos and wings "add-ons" rather than complete meals (given the size of the plate, the latter wouldn't be a stretch).

Now I am hungry--no wonder they always provide food and smokes at AA mtgs, eh? Not that I'd know...

;)

I like the vids of this tour, with a healthy looking Garcia keeping a watchful eye on everything . Phil sure looks young !

Dudley,

Yes, what a great video.
Would have loved to have that 3rd set.

I have seen the more in studio video which has Donna in a smoking PITB.(I think that is the Beat Club)
Anything else out there from Europe 72?
.

No, those are the two . And to my mind Pig just looks sad . Gone form being the band's front man, to an almost token spot .
